Index Focus - 8 December 2016

Equities are holding their ground this morning buoyed by an overnight surge on Wall St that extended the Trump rally, coupled with optimism the ECB will (within the next 2 hrs) keep the easy policy gravy train rolling that little bit longer and hopes that Italy’s undercapitalised and teetering banking sector will get another reprieve until the new year. The UK Index is being driven by a mix of healthcare, materials and defensives, whilst being held back largely by financials.

The  UK 100  is doing its best to hold above 6900 after a pullback from overnight highs. The DAX 30 has broken below December rising support at 11020 but remains above the key 11000 level. Dow Jones Futures are sideways 19500-550 after yesterday’s northerly surge to fresh all-time highs. Gold is readying for a break from a narrowing pattern at $1176.
