Sound Energy, previously known as Sound Oil, is a Moroccan gas explorer that is listed in the alternative investment market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange. Sound Energy’s Moroccan gas field has ‘multi Tcf’ potential. The company has a strategic collaboration with one of the largest companies in the sector, Schlumberger and two key investors.
In a world where people are seeking more ecologically friendly fuels gas is emerging as the cleaner alternative to coal. While the energy sector is experiencing a transition, with the price of oil falling drastically since 2014, oil and gas have been put under considerable pressure. Although oil prices are creeping back upwards the market continues to favour gas companies who are cash rich, have low debt levels and strong management.
Sound Energy is reaping the rewards of low competition in a time when people are looking to gas as their energy source.
Sound Energy has a clear strategy to unlock the Moroccan gas potential. This includes:
- Expansion to Eastern Morocco with three bold exploration wells, each with multi Tcf potential which will provide higher volumes
- Shooting new seismic and aerial gradiometry with a view to de-risking 31 of its Tcf potential sites in Eastern Morocco and up to 9 Tcf in Sidi Moktar
- Developing its existing 0.6 Tcf gas discovery
- Strengthening of their onshore gas position in Morocco
Gas exploration is a high-risk and expensive task. It is heavily reliant upon the success of one project to finance the search and development of the next. Unless a company is willing to work with others and share the profits of their successes.
