…[continued] looking at which companies have the greatest market capitalisation. The FTSE 100 is by far the most popular and widely used representation of the UK stock market. The index is published every 15 seconds, meaning it is constantly up to date with the state of the market. Trading hours run from 08:00 until 16:30, with closing values taken at 16:35.
The FTSE 100 has been used since the start of 1984 and incorporates around 81 per cent of the market capitalisation of the entire London Stock Exchange market. Every quarter of a year the companies listed on the FTSE 100 are reviewed and updated to reflect the latest market capitalisation statistics. The FTSE Group, originally a joint venture between the London Stock Exchange and the Financial Times, is the independent company that maintains the FTSE 100. There is also a FTSE 250 (the next 250 largest companies after the FTSE 100) and the FTSE 350 (the top 350 companies combined)
If you want to get started with your trading on the FTSE 100 or want to use a new platform to trade from, we at Accendo Markets offer different options to suit your requirements. One way you can benefit from the FTSE 100 is via spread betting. Our spread betting accounts allow you to trade on whether a stock will rise or fall in value on the FTSE 100. You chose what amount of money you wish to trade on a per point basis. For example, if you traded on a £20 per point basis that the stock will rise in value, each point the market moves in your favour you would gain £20. However, if the value fell, you would lose £20 per point the market moved against you. To help you perfect your spread betting strategies we have a free spread betting demo and spread betting guide. On opening an account, you would also be assigned a dedicated personal trader who will provide advice and tuition in using our services to make the most from your trading experience.
Another way that you can trade on the FTSE 100 with our help is through contracts for difference trading, or CFD trading. We offer a free CFD trading platform trial to give you a chance to practice your trading or alternatively you can open one of our CFD accounts to start trading on contracts for an underlying asset. The difference between the opening and closing trade on the underlying asset is paid as a profit or a loss.
The risk of making a loss with CFD trading means that even investing a small amount of capital can yield very large rewards. You have different options for trading on the FTSE 100 but we at Accendo Markets can help you work out the best plan for your needs and act as your broker to help ensure successful trading.
