Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +6 points this morning at 6130.  The UK 100 is called to open 6 points higher this morning, as company reporting season continues this week and Gold hits record highs.  Markets closed in the red on Friday Stateside, the Dow Jones slipped by 182.44 points, or 0.7%, to close at 26,469.89 (Intel contributing to the fall, falling 16.2%, as rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. shares gained 16.5% , after Intel reported its next generation of semiconductor technology will be delayed and that it may actually use a third party to manufacture it as a contingency plan).  The S&P  gave up 20.03 points, or 0.6%, closing at 3,215.63; and the Nasdaq fell 98.24 points or 0.9% to close at 10,363.18.  Declines were driven by investors fretted about rising Sino-American tensions and a lack of progress on another fiscal stimulus bill in Washington.

 

Company News:

 

Antofagasta has reached a contract deal with the union workers at its Zaldivar copper mine, averting the risk of a walk-off.

 

AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo have entered into a collaboration to develop and commercialise a new antibody drug conjugate which will be used in the treatement of lung, breast and multiple other cancers.

 

Indivior has agreed to pay $600m and have a subsidary plead guilty to a felony charge to resolve U.S. allegations that it engaged in an illegal cheme to boost prescriptions of its opioid addiction treatment Suboxone.

 

Ryanair posts smaller than expected Q1 loss of 185m euros (232m euro loss expected) as they are wary of the threat of a COVID-19 second wave. Revenue was down 95% to 125m euros, with its cash burn effectively ended as cash balances were up to 3.9bn euros at the end of June (from 3.8bn euros in March). They state it is impossible to say whether they might turn an annual profit for FY 2020.
