Markets Overview:

UK 100 is called to open -10 points this morning at 6928. Calls for a muted open this morning come despite a fairly strong finish on Wall Street on Friday night. And a 0.5% gain in Japan this morning, it was a fairly mixed session in Asia, The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong rose 0.10% while the Shanghai Composite in China slipped 0.01%. Sentiment has been affected by surge in India of Covid-19, investors seem to be concerned not only of the affects on the economy of India but also supplies from the country. As well as the propensity for a new variant of the disease.

Pearson report that their underlying Q1 sales grew 5, with online learning growing 25%. They expect revenue and profit growth in 2021 to be in line with current outlook.

 

Staffline says Q1 trading is currently ahead of management expectations.

 

Tate & Lyle confirm talks to sell its controlling stake in Primary products business, which are at an “early stage”.

 

Wizz Air expects to fly at 60-80% of its capacity this summer.
