Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +10 points at 7354; this comes on the back of a slightly muted Asian session contributed to in main by furthering geopolitical tensions. In corporate news this morning UK travel firm Thomas Cook has collapsed and filed for bankruptcy, leaving 150,000 passengers stranded.  The Dow Jones having closed last week with a negative trading session has bounced back in out of hours trading to once again settle above 27000, a level which has proven key for the US index.  Oil rose 1% overnight to again break through $65 a barrel, will oil find support here again? As mentioned geopolitical tensions globally are having an impact on global equity markets and the big winner has been gold, now trading above $1515.

AstraZeneca have announced that Qtrilmet is recommended for approval in EU by CHMP for the treatment of type-2 diabetes. 

 

Marks & Spencer announce that Humphrey Singer, group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has decided to leave the business and a succession process is now underway.

Thomas Cook announced this morning that they’ve ceased trading effective immediately and have entered into compulsory liquidation.
