Markets Overview:

 

UK Index called to open +5 points at 7680. Asian stocks saw modest gains as investors continued to bid up prices after seven weekly advances. A regional benchmark hit the highest level since 2018.  The Nikkei closed at 24,083 (+42 points), it was a different story however in Hong Kong, as the Hang Seng gave up 182 points to close at 28,866.  The US closed the week at record levels, the Dow Jones once more closed at record highs,  29,348 (+50 points), the Nasdaq also closed at all time highs, 9,388 (+31 points) & the S&P completed the green sweep & the record highs, closing at 3,329 (+12 points).  Oil jumped back above $65 a barrel as supply disruptions in Iraq and Libya reignited concerns over the market’s vulnerability to geopolitical risk in key production regions. Futures rose more than 1.7% in London and New York. Iraq temporarily stopped output at an oil field on Sunday, with supply from a second site threatened as unrest escalates.  Gold continued to rally over the weekend, currently trading at $1560.

In corporate news this morning:

 

AstraZeneca release that Imfinzi (durvalumab) and tremelimumab, an anti-CTLA4 antibody and potential new medicine, have both been granted Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) in the US for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of liver cancer. AstraZeneca also announce that Lynparza regulatory submission granted Priority Review in the US for HRR-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

BAE Systems announces that it has entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire Collins Aerospace’s military global positioning system business for $1.925bn in cash.
