UK 100 is called to open +10 points this morning at 6758. Calls for a positive open come as traders digest this mornings UK inflation data, which shows a rise again in the UK. The consumer prices index rose to an annual rate of 0.7% in January, up from 0.6% in December. That’s a little higher than economists had expected. It was a mixed performance for US markets yesterday, with the Dow Jones closing up 0.2% at a record high of 31,522 while the S&P dropped 0.06% to 3,932 and the Nasdaq fell 0.34% to 14,047. The picture was also mixed in Asia this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.58% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 0.99%, having bounced from an early fall.
British American Tobacco reports that their FY pretax profit is up to £8.67bn (£7.91bn previously) and they expect 2021 to have a mid-single figure adjusted EPS rise.
Hargreaves Lansdown co-founder Peter Hargreaves completes the sale of 19.5m shares, raising £300m in total.
Imperial Brands hires Lukas Paravicini as their new CFO from the 5th of August 2021.
Plus 500 raises their final dividend payout by 44% to 54.22 US cents per share after announcing record levels of new and active customers in 2020 and more than doubling their revenues to $872.5m.
Rio Tinto posted a 20% jump in annual underlying earnings to $12.45bn, beating analysts’ estimates of $12.02bn. They also declared a final dividend of $3.09 per share (Up from 2019 $2.31 per share).
TP ICAP are to issue 225.3m shares at 140p in a rights issue.
