Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +50 points this morning at 5880.  Overnight in Asian markets, the Hang Seng was having a good day in Hong Kong, rising 189 points to 24,348 but in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 92 points at 23,415.  In the US yesterday, The Dow and S&P 500 finished nearly flat for the day, shaking off larger declines earlier Thursday. The Dow ended up loosing 18 points, The Nasdaq Composite was the worst performing index, dropping 0.5%.

 

Company News:

JD Wetherspoon plans to cut 108 staff at its head office as sales fell 30.6% to £1.262bn, reporting a FY loss before tax of £34.1m (2019: £102.5m profit) due to the impact of coronavirus restrictions.
Man Group reported a 4.4% rise in funds under management, as it saw a recovery in markets after a steep selloff earlier in the year. Funds under management as of September-end were $113.1bn (up from $108.3bn reported in June).
Serco Group raises FY underlying trading profit to £160-165m after achieving strong revenue growth in Q3. All of their regions are performing better than expected and have increased their forecasts for 2020.
