Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +40 at 7110; Following yesterday’s pull back, overnight trading sessions were stronger, which saw risk on appetite bleed through to the UK 100 ; Asian sessions buoyed by fresh speculation of market stimulation, specifically “aggressive stimulus from all the major central banks”.  This followed a positive day Stateside, seeing the DOW recovering 100 points yesterday, on the back of news that President Xi was willing to meet Trump & the US half way on a trade deal. Oil jumped off the $58 handle to break back into the $59 per barrel region. Risk on sentiment saw gold pull back from overnight highs of $1528 to settle at $1517.

 

In corporate news this morning:

Standard Life Aberdeen have entered into a share repurchase programme with Citi, who intend to buy £200m of SLA’s shares. The purchase of shares will take start today and end no later than the 16 January 2020.

Ted Baker announces the appointment of Next Plc as its new Childrenswear license partner, which replace Debenhams.  

Ultra Electronics announce the award of an IDIQ contract to Sparton DeLeon Springs, LLC (valued at $1.04B) to their ERAPSCO joint venture, for the manufacture of sonobuoys for the United States Navy.
