Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +3 points at 7250: on the back of Fridays global market rally we have seen a continuation of positive market sentiment. In focus today will be the resumption of Brexit talks, as both sides rush to reach a potential compromise. European negotiators have warned that Boris Johnson’s Brexit plan isn’t good enough to be the basis of a deal. The British PM told his Cabinet there’s a way forward for an agreement. In Asian trading news that the US had paused tariff hikes on China in phase one talks saw Asian equity markets catch a bid, the Nikkei rising in excess of 1% during market hours, with a similar story from the Hang Seng. It is a public holiday in the US today however the Dow Jones closed the week after with a 300 point rally on Friday! In corporate focus today will be the Brexit sensitive banks and house builders, we saw gains of 10%+ on Friday, will we see this momentum continue today? Crude oil prices remained strong over the weekend holding above $60.5 per barrel. The big loser from this risk on period of trading has been gold settling at $1487, fully $60 from recent highs.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Ashmore gave an update on their assets under management for Q3 2019 which were broadly flat increasing by +0.1% for the period. 

 

BP New Delhi Chairman says break even oil price for BP is below $50 a barrel and he sees global oil prices in $60-65 a barrel territory. 

 

Sophos Group are to be bought out by Thoma Bravo in $3.8bn deal, representing a premium of +37% on the stock’s closing price on Friday. 

 

Superdry announces that Julian Dunkerton’s contract as CEO has been extended until April 2021.
