Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 6011.  Calls for a positive open come as China reported overnight a big bounce back in exports and imports. Yesterday Stateside we saw The Dow Jones rise by 250.62 points, or 0.9%, to close at 28,837.52. The S&P 500 also gained, in this case 1.6% to end the day at 3,534.22 and the Nasdaq completed the green sweep on Monday across the major US benchmarks, adding 2.6% to 11,876.26. It was the Nasdaq’s best day since Sept. 9, when it rallied 2.7%.  Apple shares jumped 6.4% to give the company stock its biggest one day gain since July 31, as investors looked ahead to a key event for the company. On Tuesday, Apple is expected to unveil its first 5G iPhone.  Facebook and Amazon advanced 4.3% and 4.8%, respectively. Alphabet popped 3.6% and Microsoft gained 2.6% to complete the tech rally.

 

Company News:

French Connection reports HY underlying loss of £12.2m (2019: £3.6m loss) as gross margins were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

LSE said its pan-European share trading arm Turquoise will offer trading in EU-listed shares on its Dutch platform from the end of next month if there is no agreement on future direct access to the bloc by then.

 

SSE agrees the sale of its 50% share in Ferrybridge and Skelton Grange multifuel assets for a total cash consideration of £995m.
