Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -58 points this morning at 6275.  Calls for a negative open come as virus cases continue to surge and news this morning that Boris Johnson’s most senior adviser, Dominic Cummings, is reportedly set to leave his Downing Street position by Christmas. After being boosted by the positive vaccine news earlier in the week, investors are turning their attention back to the immediate virus issues. Asian markets were also lower on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index down 0.6% and  Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index off 0.5%.  Overnight in the US, the Dow Jones ended 317 points, or 1.1% lower at 29,080 while the broader S&P lost 1.0%, and the tech-laden Nasdaq gave up 0.7%.

Company News:

Galliford Try sees return to profitability in H1 of their FY beginning on the 1st July 2020. The group is performing well, in line with board’s expectations.

Tesco will set up solar farms, fit more solar panels in its stores and roll out electric vehicles to bring forward the target for its UK business to be net-zero carbon emissions by 2035.
