Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +6 points this morning at 6022.  Calls for a positive open this morning come in spite of the threat of tougher lockdown restrictions across the UK.  In Asia overnight, main markets were led higher by China, which has seen its currency soar amid recovery hopes. the Shanghai Compositive advanced 2.6%, followed by Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, which was up 2.3% amid hopes of a regional recovery from the coronavirus lockdown. Fridays trading session in the US saw the major indices closing higher as President Donald Trump called for a bigger coronavirus aid package. The Dow Jones gained 127 points, or 0.5% to close at 28,622. The S&P also gained ground by 0.7% and was up by 1.1% at 3,485.  The Nasdaq also gained to close 159 points higher, or 1.39%, its third positive session in a row and fourth positive session in five to close out the week at 11,738.

 

Company News:

AstraZeneca announce that the US government has awarded them $486m to develop and secure supplies of up to 100,000 doses of COVID-19 antibody treatment.

IAG announce that they have replaced their CEO Alex Cruz with Aer Lingus boss Sean Doyle, after only one month in the job.

Marks & Spencer are seeking to avoid a repeat of last Christmas when its performance was ruined by excessive food waste, is rolling out a supply chain programme it says will crack the problem.

RDSB have said its mobile drilling units are returning to the Gulf of Mexico to restart operations after Hurricane Delta.
