Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +40 points this morning at 6042.   On Friday the Dow Jones and S&P 500 managed to add small gains, investors seemingly brushing off concerns over rising U.S.-China tensions and ongoing coronavirus stimulus negotiations.  The Dow closed 46.50 points higher, or 0.2%, at 27,433.48. The S&P 500 ended the session up 0.1% at 3,351.28. Those gains were enough to stretch their winning streaks to six days. However The Nasdaq Composite lagged, falling 0.9% to 11,010.98 and snapping a seven-session winning streak. The index was dragged lower by tech heavyweights Amazon and Netflix falling 1.8% and 2.8%, respectively. Microsoft dropped 1.8% also and Apple slid 2.3%.

 

Company News:

 

AstraZeneca: Brazilian billionaire Jorge Lemann’s foundation and other business interests will fund the building of a factory to produce the COVID-19 vaccine being developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

 

Barclays is being probed by the UK’s privacy watchdog, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) over allegations that the bank spied on its staff.

 

Superdry have announced they have entered into a new financing facility to ensure flexibility and liquidity going forward. Its a new £70m asset backed lending facility, extending until January 2023.
