Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +35 points (Having also paid a 36p dividend) at 7233; A continuation of yesterday’s recovery from Tuesdays lows of 7048 have seen the UK Index recover almost 200 points already! Still 450 points away from where we were a fortnight ago. A far lore positive trading session overnight in Asia after Chinese trade data came in stronger than consensus, this also paid its part in Stabilising the Yuan. The Stateside trading session also contributed to the global rally (more evidence of the Trump Dump rally?) paring losses of almost 600 points during trading! Oil continued to slide from levels Of $61 a barrel earlier this week to $58 a barrel (did see lows of $57) as gold tried to stay above yesterday’s 6 year highs of $1510, settling prior to today’s trading session at $1500 flat.

 

In corporate news this morning:

Aviva reported mixed results which saw a 1% increase in profits YoY of £1,448m (2018: £1,438).  Interim dividend +3% to 9.5p; However they have said there is much to do to improve performance.     

Bellway expects profit before tax to be in line with current market estimates. Successful delivery of their growth strategy, with housing revenue expected to rise by over 8%. A strong forward order book provides a solid platform from which to deliver further growth in the year ahead.

Evraz EBITDA -22.2% from 2018: US$1,906m. Total debt dropped by $112m to $4,526m. Net profit was US$344m ($1,145m in H1 2018). 

Hargreaves Lansdown  announces net new business of £7.3 billion, strong growth in Assets Under Administration, up 8% to £99.3 billion. 1,224,000 active clients, +133,000 in the year. Profit before tax +5% to £305.8 million, with total dividend +5% at 42.0 pence per share.

Ryanair pilots last night voted to strike, The British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa) has announced two walkouts, one from 22-23 August, while the second strike will be from 2-4 September (During Peak summer holiday travel times)
